Library
The Moorpark College Library/Learning Resource Center serves all currently enrolled students, college faculty and staff, and members of the community. The library is a comfortable place to study, to investigate a topic of interest, or to enjoy reading a current book, periodical, or magazine. Please feel free to ask for assistance in using the library; a reference librarian is available to help you with your research questions.
The Collection
The library has a curriculum-oriented collection containing approximately 72,000 books and more than 300 periodical subscriptions. The collection also includes microfilm, CDs, audiotapes, and videotapes. Electronic Resources are available which provide access to material, including newspaper and magazine articles, and there are numerous computer stations that provide access to the Internet free of charge.
On the second floor of the Library/Learning Resource Center, the library catalog is available on six dedicated stations. Here patrons can look up print and non-print titles owned by the Moorpark College Library. The catalog indicates the call number of each item in the collection and also shows whether or not the desired material is checked out. The library's catalog is also available on the Internet through the library's homepage.
Services
The library is open to everyone; however, in order to borrow material, you must be a registered Moorpark College student or an employee at the College. Free student borrowers' cards are issued at the Circulation Desk upon presentation of a picture identification.
Patrons are asked to have no more than five items checked out at one time. Most materials circulate for two weeks. Reference books and periodicals do not circulate.
There are computers in the Library/Learning Resource Center which students may use to access the Internet and library databases. Use of the computers is free, but there is a $0.10 per page charge for printing. All printing transactions must be conducted through the use of a copy card, which can be purchased for a one-time fee of $1.00 in the Copier Room. Additional change or dollars may be added to a copy card to increase its balance. Print jobs sent from computers on the second and third floors of the Library/Learning Resource Center can be retrieved from the printer at the Circulation Desk.
Photocopiers are available on the second floor of the Library/Learning Resource Center in the Copier Room. Copies are $0.10 per page and may be transacted using cash, change, or copy cards.
Reserve materials are kept behind the Circulation Desk. Instructors often put materials "on reserve" in the library and designate their use for a limited period of time. Please request the material by the instructor's last name.
Interlibrary loan services are available to library card holders. Should the library not have adequate material for a patron's research, the library may borrow materials from other institutions. If you wish to use interlibrary loan, please consult the reference librarian.
